How much does a water softener cost in Utah?
The cost of a water softener depends on your home and your specific needs. We give you a flat-rate price before we start. That number does not change when we show up at your door. Our prices are typically half what national brands charge for comparable equipment — because we do not have a showroom, a sales commission, or a franchise fee built into your quote.
What affects the price of a water softener
Similar to purchasing a car, pricing varies based on factors such as system size, features, and installation requirements. While lower-cost systems may work short-term, higher-quality systems are more efficient, use significantly less salt, and are designed to last longer with fewer issues.
Key factors that affect price include:
- The hardness level of your water
- Number of people in the household
- Whether the home is pre-plumbed for a softener
- Your home’s layout and accessibility
- Plumbing preferences for indoor or outdoor fixtures
- Finished basements or the need to run new piping
We focus on well-built, reliable systems that offer the best balance of performance, longevity, and value—often described as the “Honda” of water softeners.

Why our prices are typically half what national brands charge
We are not a national brand with a call center and a sales commission built into every quote. We are a local, owner-operated business that has been installing water softeners in Utah homes since 2016.
Still wondering if our price is too good to be true? We understand the hesitation. Here is our honest answer — we make a great living at our current prices. If a competitor is charging twice as much for a comparable system, the difference is not going into the equipment. We would rather earn your business with quality and transparency than win it with a slick sales pitch.

What a standard installation includes with online pricing
| Item | Standard installation |
|---|---|
| Wall access | Online pricing does not include cutting or repairing drywall. Homes requiring wall access for new plumbing runs are better suited for an in-home consultation. |
| Concrete surfaces | Online pricing does not include drilling through concrete surfaces for plumbing runs. Anchoring equipment to concrete when required is included. |
| Plumbing distance | Installation includes up to 30 linear feet of new piping (measured up, down, over, across, and through). If additional distance is required, this can be noted on the form and reflected in your invoice. Note: The softener must be tied into the main water line before it branches to ensure whole-home soft water. |
| Electrical | A standard electrical outlet must be available within 14 linear feet of the installation location. Extension cords may be used but must be provided by the homeowner. |
| Drain access | Adequate drainage (typically a floor drain) must be available near the installation location. Shared drains with laundry equipment are often acceptable if capacity allows. Drainage must be able to handle approximately 5 gallons per minute. |
| Plumbing materials | All new installation plumbing will be completed using PEX. Existing copper piping will be transitioned as needed. |
| Location & access | Installation areas must be reasonably accessible. Any unusual access conditions (crawlspaces, upper floors without elevators, tenant coordination, restricted access) should be disclosed prior to purchase. |
| Pets | For everyone’s safety, pets must be secured away from the installation area during service. |
| Water pressure | The home’s pressure reducing valve (PRV) must be functional and regulate incoming pressure to 80 PSI or less. If this condition is not met, installation may be delayed until resolved. |
| Unforeseen conditions | Every home is different. Occasionally, unforeseen conditions are discovered during installation that require additional components. When this occurs, we will discuss the issue and pricing before proceeding. Labor related to these adjustments is included; additional materials are billed as needed. |

Water softener pricing questions
How much does a water softener cost?
The cost of a water softener depends on your home and your specific needs.
Because every home is different, the best way to provide an accurate price is to review these details with you directly. Call or text 801-559-7638 for an upfront, no-obligation quote tailored to your home.
Do I have to sit through a sales presentation to get a price?
No. We do not use high-pressure or time-consuming sales presentations.
With a few simple questions and, in some cases, a brief 10-minute walk-through of your home, we can provide an accurate, upfront price without wasting your time.
What happens if you find a problem during installation?
Every home is different. Occasionally, unforeseen conditions are discovered during installation that require additional components. When this occurs, we will discuss the issue and pricing before proceeding. Labor related to these adjustments is included; additional materials are billed as needed.
Can I cancel an online order after paying?
- If you receive an invoice but do not submit payment, no commitment has been made and no cancellation is necessary.
- If a customer voluntarily chooses to cancel an order after completing their purchase, an $89 cancellation fee will apply. The remaining purchase amount will be refunded to the customer. If Flat Rate Water Softeners determines after purchase that the selected equipment cannot be properly or safely installed, a full refund of the entire purchase price will be issued, with no cancellation fee.
How long does water softener installation take?
Most installations can be scheduled within 72 hours of your order.
Installation time varies based on what you choose and your home’s layout. A standard water softener installation typically takes about 2 hours, while installations that include multiple systems—such as a softener with reverse osmosis or whole-home filtration—may take a bit longer.
Every home is unique, but we’ll always give you a clear time estimate before installation.
